A truly historical old place, home to many famous people of the Tareen /Tarin clan of Afghans settled here since the 17th century. There used to be an old 'haveli' style mansion of wood and sun-brick here originally, with ancient carvings and decorations, which was destroyed during the Sikh rule, in the 19th c. Later on in 1882, the then-head of Tarin/Tareen family, Sardar Muhammad Habib Khan, remade a simple 'bangla' style construction in one part of the older edifice; which was later expanded and modernized by his son Khan Sahib Abdul Majid Khan Tarin, OBE, between 1905 and 1921, in 3 sections or tiers. Apart from Sardar Muhammad Habib Khan and KS Abdul Majid Khan Tarin, other famous Tarins/Tareens associated with this old family seat of nobles, have been HE Khan Abdus Salim Khan, ex-ambassador, his wife late Begum Mahmuda Salim (Pakistan's first woman minister), late Dr Javed Salim Khan , CSP, a senior civil servant, and at present, the famous Pakistani poet, scholar and mystic, Omer Tarin. Maybe in the future this old house will produce even more famous people. It is a fine place with notable architectural and design features adapted from the Bengali (hence 'Bangla') style. It is not generally open but is accessible to public by appointment from the family members who still occupy it.
