The Sohail Gate is the finest gate at Rohtas Fort. Its name has two possible origins: it is either named for the 'Sohail' star which rises above the gate, or it may be named for Sohail Bukhari, a saint who is believed to be buried in the gate's southwestern bastion. Facing south, the gate rises nearly 21.3 meters and is about 20.7 meters wide, with a depth of 15 meters. Its outer facade is beautifuly decorated with two projecting balconies which are somewhat similar in design to those found on the Haveli Man Singh within the fort, although more finely constructed. The central archway, which is 4.7 meters wide, is flanked by sunflower motifs made of sandstone.
