There has been a continual debate in the intellectual circles on the representation of middle class and youth in politics, for all the right reasons of course. Our view is based on the same principle, making our case for local journalism and inclusion of youth in journalism. We feel that the stories of communities can be best told by its own people. So we invested our time and energy into training young citizen journalists with the passion to tell local stories from their communities. We trained them to paint the issues and report on stories that best depict the ground realities of the settlements they are based in, to build a collective narrative that explains the layers of this highly diverse society of ours. These hyper-local stories produced on our programs have been enlightening, inspiring, and helped shape our perspectives too. They are like pieces of puzzle, which when put together form the metanarrative of our society, its complexities, unfold the ground realities, and make up the sociocultural fabric of our communities, thus contributing to The Big Picture of the society we identify with. The Big Picture Pk is a citizen journalism portal creating and curating hyper-local human interest stories on culture, people, and society. In the past, our students have put together stories of local libraries, community and charity schools, and community centers. They have interviewed laborers and fishermen from informal settlements, local activists and entrepreneurs in different domains, and residents about their everyday struggles with water mafia, land mafia, and local law and order situation. We have published over 14 print publications featuring stories of resilience, peace, co-existence, interfaith harmony, tolerance, global citizenship, community activism etc. on education, environment, and gender beats etc. Last year, we launched a quarterly youth magazine entitled Youth Matters carrying some of these powerful inclusive narratives. #SupportLocalJournalism
