It is lovely place with Historical as well as Scenic Value. First, you visit this place of you need to see the original relic of Grand Turnk Road famously called as GT road built by King of India Sher Shah Suri. Second, this place can give a beautiful scenic and panoramic view of the Margalla range Mountains. From here you can view all surrounding areas of Taxila and new Sectors of Islamabad city. Thirdly, it is a monumental place of British Rule that is displayed through tall column that is again a delight to see especially inside where the details of the monument is present telling the contribution of Nicholson in three Afghan wars waged by British Government. Worth visiting place for Tourists, Historians, Archeaologists, Anthropologists, Architects, and Nature Lovers. etc

Good place to visit in winters as you will get a good warm up during the elevation of stairs leading till reaching. There's no easy parking around. It's always open for everyone. It was sniper point during the Mughal era as per the board on its wall. You can get a mesmerizing view of Taxila from this point and everything seems in slow motion from here. The place is neat and clean with no dust. You can also inside this tower and peep through the window on its top but it's dark inside with bee hives so better to see it from outside and a winter visit is more recommended. Approximately 200 stairs as visible in the pics attached.

It is situated at the Tarnol pass ( or Margalla Pass) of the Margalla Hills close to the twin cities of Rawalpindi Islamabad en route to the historical town of Taxila. The granite obelisk, approximately 40 feet (12 m) tall, stands on a rocky prominence overlooking the Grand Trunk Road connecting Islamabad with Peshawar. There is also a small memorial fountain at the base of the hillock on which the Memorial/Obelisk stands.

Nicholson Obelisk is situated on Margalla pass near Taxila on GT road. It was erected in 1868 in honor of colonial British general John Nicholson who fought against Sikhs at same place around 1845/46. The monument is a shear legacy of Colonial Era.unI
